In the present world, where machines have become integral part of every manufacturing industry, the warmness and comfort of handmade quilts is still something that is incomparable. Generally, these quilts are passed to us from our elders. It is the proof of quality and durability of these handmade quilts. The quilts that are being made with the help of machines these days, stand nowhere in front of traditional hand quilts. The former lacks quality while it can be found in the latter. The craftsmen of this craft still give preference to the satisfaction of the customers through their high quality and finest handmade quilts. You can also learn to make hand quilts. Although it is time consuming, but if its excellence over quality is considered, it well deserves this time. However, once you know how to hand quilts and you make one such quilt. Rest assured that it would be a priceless treasure for you. Before you start to make a quilt, first of all you have to select a quilt design. If you are a beginner, begin with a small coverlet and then proceed to larger quilts and bedcovers. To get ideas for handmade quilting designs, go through suitable design books. You can also search online. After selecting, transfer this design to the top side of the fabric with tailor’s chalk. Thereafter, sew the layers using hand quilts. You will require large running stitch, which begins from the center of the quilt and then spread outwards the corners. Now adjust your quilt in a quilting frame or on a table to provide support to its whole weight. Make sure that none of the portion of the quilt is hanging in a way over the sides of the support that the fabric gets distorted. Thread a needle with a 16” long thread and place a knot at the end to begin your hand quilts. While piercing via all the layers of the fabric, insert the needle from the top down. Smoothly, pull the knot down via the top layer; make sure that it is stuck in the fabric. Now, the top thread is trimmed. After that, do hand quilts all along the outlined design of the quilt. To give an unbroken look to your thread line, use a closely spaced running stitch. Finish a thread by placing the knot at the thread end at the top of the fabric’s surface while keeping the needle still threaded. Now, another stitch is taken but only through the filer layer, then again pull it upwards in a way that the knot is again stuck in the filler and the extra thread is trimmed. In this way, your handmade quilt can be made and after that, you can enjoy the comfort of this fine and comfy quilt.
