Making of Quilt Patterns Star
Star quilts were basically originated among the Sioux tribes. It is due to this reason that these quilts are made by using a pieces of different clothes into the traditional eight-pointed morning star, which is their symbol. You like to make patterns made of stars, but you are new to quilt patterns star, also you are not much confident about the required precise measuring, cutting and stitching. Then you can definitely make use of the method mentioned below, which is a very easy and fun technique to make star pattern. These stars will make an attractive, creative and modern patchwork designs for your quilt. You do not require cutting and stitching of fussy little triangles and bias corners to make it. Rather it can be made by simply piecing the star points using a stitch-and-flip technique. The most important thing that needs your consideration is the contrast between stars and background. Stars should stand out against their backgrounds. You can make stars from a single fabric or from different fabrics. You need background fabric, star point fabric scraps, rotary ruler, rotary mat, cutter, sewing machine and iron to make quilt pattern star. Let’s assume that you want to make each star block of 4 by 4 measurements. You need nine squares to make a block. These squares can be of same size or may have symmetric or asymmetric grid. In order to make a simple star, you just need to place a square or rectangle shaped background fabric on a rotary mat. With the cutter and ruler, the fabric is divided into nine patches. You do not need to measure anything but just cut two parallel horizontal and two parallel vertical lines. It will give irregularity to your star pattern. Now, use pins to keep the patches in sequence. Pin should be placed at the outside corner of each patch and also at the middle of the edge of inside border of the middle pieces. Now, stitch all the patches while keeping all the patches in order till it not stitched completely. Thereafter, you just need to eliminate the centerpiece and use it as a template for making the star center. You can use single fabric or any patchwork for the star center. Now, it is the turn to apply all the star points to one of the side patches. Then, star point fabric must be laid on the background patch. The edge of one side of the piece of star fabric must cross the background fabric somewhere near the pin marking the inside center edge. It should also cross the adjacent edge of the fabric. After that, turn the star fabric and press. Cut away the extra star fabric keeping wrong side up and using background as a template, but the background must not be cut. Thus, you will get one star point. Similarly make other star points keeping some long and some small. Now, place the star points on the four side background patches. Make sure that all points should be made from same fabric. Now sew the nine patches simultaneously like nine patch block. You can apply all stars on your quilt’s background fabric. Now you have a complete quilt patterns star. Make number of such pattern and stitch them on a fabric to a full-length quilt of the star pattern.
